USA: FAA tightens planes certification
New aircraft safety assessment policy adopted
The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced that it has adopted a new aircraft certification policy in recent hours. It's a move that tightens minimum safety standards and comes following the two fatal plane crashes involving B-737 MAX aircraft between 2018 and 2019, aircraft for which the Authority requested changes to the design of the flight controls.
"Key milestones have been established during the certification process to help evaluate whether any changes to the design of aircraft systems should be considered new or unusual, and therefore require further scrutiny", said Federal Aviation Administration.
For its part, Boeing said it will continue "to work transparently with the Federal Aviation Administration to ensure we continue to meet all requirements in the certification process". Also because those two accidents cost the Group more than 20 billion dollars in compensation, fines and blocked orders for 20 months. And even today the FAA is evaluating the certification of the MAX 7 and MAX 10 aircraft.
