Ukraine: developments on the EC-225 helicopter crash
Five State officials and the pilot violated safety regulations
There are developments about the plane crash that occurred on January 18, 2023 in Brovary, a suburb of Kiev. It was a "blatant violation" of safety rules that caused the Ukraine Air Force's EC-225 "Super Puma" helicopter crash into a kindergarten, claiming 15 lives, including Ukraine's interior minister, Denys Monastyrsky, top officials and some aides in his department.
The State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) established this yesterday evening, at the conclusion of the investigation. Already in the first hours after the accident it was stated that the helicopter was flying too low compared to the minimum altitude allowed, among other things in conditions of poor visibility due to the fog.
Now experts have established that the accident was caused by a violation of safety regulations by five officials of the State Service for Emergencies, as well as the helicopter pilot, who allowed the flight despite difficult weather conditions. Furthermore, it was found that the aircraft did not have permits to carry out the transport service, but could only operate emergency flights.
