Germany sends military planes to Romania
Also arriving are 80 German soldiers staying at a base near Costanza
Four Eurofighter Typhoon military planes sent from Germany will arrive in Romania. These are aircraft that will support the air policing mission of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). The planes will be operational starting from the end of November. Berlin's decision comes after a series of attacks conducted by the Russian armed forces against some Ukrainian ports on the Danube, a few hundred meters from the Romanian border.
The strengthening of the eastern European border was arranged as a deterrent against a possible attack by Russia against a member of the Atlantic Alliance. This is a move that Germany agreed with NATO, after in September the secretary general, Jens Stoltenberg, had defined Russian attacks near the border as "destabilizing". In addition to the planes, 80 German soldiers will be hosted at a base near Costanza.
