Russia-European Union tensions
Lavrov: "The West has decided to destroy the world economy to teach Russia a lesson"
A round table on Ukraine was held today with the heads of diplomatic missions accredited to Moscow. On the occasion, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov underlined that Washington continues to purchase uranium and other critical materials from Russia. Meanwhile, the European Union has imposed targeted economic sanctions against Lavrov.
"We understand perfectly well that the sanctions imposed against us in the near future, and even in the long term, will not disappear. We do not need them, not because we choose isolationism, autarky. The West has decided to destroy the world economy to teach Russia a lesson", said Russian minister.
Lavrov recently asked North Macedonia to make possible his participation, at the end of November 2023, in the ministerial meeting of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OECD) in Skopje, announced his Macedonian counterpart Bujar Osmani on Monday. But already in June 2022, Bulgaria, Macedonia and Montenegro had closed the airspace to the Russian minister, who had thus canceled a trip to Belgrade.
