Spain: a "Winter 2023" record season
Airlines increase the offer of seats on flights to and from the Country
The management company Aeropuertos Españoles y Navegación Aérea (Aena), which operates in the airport sector and controls the majority of public Iberian airports, has announced that in the "Winter 2023" season air carriers increased by +15% (compared to last year) the offer of seats on connections to and from Spain.
In detail, the period October 2023-March 2024 will see airlines making available a total number of seats equal to 126.6 million seats during the Winter season. An offer even higher than that of 2019. In reality, the performance recorded in the period before the pandemic had already been surpassed in the "Summer 2023" season (April-September) with approximately 163 million seats (+1.2% on 2019).
Meanwhile, according to estimates by the Asociación de Líneas Aéreas (Ala), the association that brings together Spanish companies chaired by Javier Gandara, in 2023 airlines will increase their offer by +13% compared to 2019. This is also thanks to the strong demand for leisure travel and despite high inflation, which does not stop the desire to fly, while business travel is still slightly below pre-pandemic levels.
