Helicopter crashes in Italy
Divers searching for the two missing: one of German nationality and one Egyptian
A Bell 206 helicopter crashes in the Ferrara area, two missing, one of German nationality and one Egyptian. The aircraft sank into the Cavo napoleonico drainage canal, which connects the Reno and Po rivers in the Emilian plain. The crash occurred today, Tuesday 10 October around 11:00 am, in Settepolesini. Search and rescue operations are currently taking place.
According to an initial reconstruction, the aircraft had left Ozzano (Bologna) and was headed for Padua. Some witnesses reported hearing a bang and then clearly seeing the rear part of the aircraft falling into the canal. They then saw some clothing and some helicopter wreckage floating on the surface of the water.
The 118 doctors, the local police, the diving unit of the Bologna fire brigade and the Carabinieri intervened on site. The Italian Flight Safety Agency (ANSV) sent its technicians to the scene and opened an investigation about it.
