USA: complaints from passengers with disabilities are increasing
Claims against airlines increased by almost 200% post-pandemic
The American non-profit organization "USA Facts", which analyzes data on the US population and the impact of government actions on society, recently published a new report which puts under review the situation of passengers with disabilities in airports and their reception by air carriers. According to the document, complaints have increased by almost +200% since the pandemic ended.
The NGO notes that in 2022, travellers with disabilities filed 1,693 complaints against US airlines. A number of complaints tripled compared to the period between 1999 and 2019, when an average of 477 were filed per year. However, considering the two-year period 2020-2021, an average of 1462 complaints were presented each year.
The "USA Facts" study highlighted how the American air transport sector is failing to offer an adequate service to this segment of customers. Among the companies most affected by the complaints, according to the NGO, are Allegiant Air, followed by JetBlue and Frontier Airlines. Also for this reason, in July 2023 the American Department of Transportation brought into force the new charter of rights for passengers with disabilities.
