Taiwan-China tensions: air violations
Highest number of aircraft ever recorded in over two years of daily monitoring
Another incursion by Chinese military aircraft into Taiwan. Taipei's defense ministry said today it had detected 103 Beijing plane flying over the airspace around the island in the last 24 hours. This is a real record: it is the highest number ever recorded in over two years of daily monitoring. Also present were nine Dragoon warships.
Beijing's repeated acts of force "can easily lead to a sharp increase in tensions and worsen the state of regional security", China is invited to "immediately stop unilateral destructive actions", which can cause "serious challenges" to security in dealings across the Taiwan Strait, said Taiwan Defense Minister Chiu Kuo-cheng.
Out of 103 military aircraft detected in total, 40 aircraft crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait or entered the Air Defense Identification Zone (Adiz). Beijing's act of force, which simulated a sort of air-naval blockade, occurred in the south-east of the island. Taipei has alerted its land-based anti-aircraft defense missile systems, while the Taiwanese air force and navy are following the evolution of the situation.
