The Airport Authority of India (AAI) has started modernizing its aviation information management system. In fact, contracts have recently been signed for the updating of the Air Traffic Management: it will be equipped with new functions for defining flight procedures and airspace design, monitoring airports and identifying obstacles to air navigation.

One of the new systems, called "Cronos" (also used by Italian ENAV and the Italian Air Force), is supplied by the Norwegian company Avinor, specialized in airport management services. This technology will support the management of Notams (Notice To Airmen), that is all the information useful to pilots such as meteorological data, flight plans, messages and pre-flight bulletins. In this way India is in line with the recommendations of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO, International Civil Aviation Organization).

A second system, the so-called "Traffic Complexity Tool", is provided by the Romanian company Romatsa, a service provider for air navigation. This new technology will ensure automated management of flights within certain portions of airspace to plan traffic flows more efficiently. A third system, supplied by the Kosovar company Ashna, will serve to increase the efficiency and sustainability of flights. Finally, Airport Authority of India has subscribed a three-year contract to train 18 new air traffic controllers.
