United States: hurricane arrives, airports closed
In Florida 800 flights cancelled at Tampa international stopover
The arrival of Hurricane "Idalia" is expected today in Florida and the United States air transport system is preparing. At Tampa International Airport, over 800 flight were cancelled, which were scheduled to depart and arrive on Tuesday and Wednesday. These are data that emerge from the specialized web portal "FlightAware", according to which 339 connections were canceled today.
The hurricane is expected to reach Category 3 before arriving on the coast of Florida, with winds that could reach 190 km/h. After causing flooding in Cuba, the tropical storm became a Category 2 hurricane late Tuesday afternoon, fueled by warm waters in the Gulf of Mexico.
Tampa's "Saint Pete" international airports in Clearwater have been closed since Tuesday afternoon, while the Sarasota-Bradenton airport stopped operations yesterday at 7:00 pm. Major US airlines have contacted passengers, inviting them to rebook their flights. American Airlines has issued a warning affecting 12 airports in Florida, Georgia and South Carolina; Southwest Airlines (11 stopovers) and JetBlue Airways (6 stopovers) did the same.
