Kenya: Nairobi airport is back in operation
The government has fired the heads of the country's airport authorities
The heads of the Kenyan airport authorities have been fired. It was decided by the Government following the power outage which on Friday hindered the operation of Nairobi's "Jomo Kenyatta" international airport, the main airport in the whole country, whose director, Abel Gogo, was transferred to Mombasa stopover. During the national blackout there was a breakdown in the terminal, which left the terminals in the dark from 9:00 in the evening to 3:00 in the morning.
"When I appointed the new board of directors, I made it clear that they needed to reorganize the workforce and end the culture whereby many of our officials hold key positions and are indefinitely in office. I assure the country that we have taken steps to strengthen the capabilities of the engineering department's technical experts, in order to ensure that such accidents do not happen again", Transport Minister Kipchumba Murkomen said after an inspection at the airport.
