USA: 46 runway incursions in July
Data is worrying in a country where three million air passengers travel every day
The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) counted at least 46 runway incursions in July 2023 alone at American airports. These are generally events, which occurred near or inside the airports, in which a high risk of collision was recorded between two aircraft, one taking off and the other landing, which perhaps avoided an accident for a few hundred of meters.
It was revealed by the American newspaper "New York Times", which came into possession of a document drawn up by the American agency. The figure is worrying because, in a country where almost three million passengers travel by plane a day, "almost all the air traffic control facilities in the United States are understaffed", said the newspaper, which advances this hypothesis to explain the flaws in aviation safety that lead to such events.
