Ukrainian conflict: Kiev destroys two Russian planes
Raid against Tu-22M3 supersonic bombers on a military base
The Armed Forces of Ukraine reportedly destroyed some Russian strategic bomber aircraft. This is the first time such an attack has been successful. The raid allegedly took place at a military base in Soltsy, located in northwestern Russia, near the border with Estonia and Latvia. To testify the attack some photos released on "Telegram", showing a Tupolev Tu-22M3 supersonic bomber on fire.
"In two years of war, the Russian Defense Ministry has not bothered to build elementary covered caponiers (protective shelters for airports, Ed) for aircraft. It is therefore not the first aircraft that becomes the object of enemy attack. Moreover, the information sites Ukrainians are the primary source of the photographs, which indicates the absence of any security at sensitive facilities of the ministry" in Moscow, underlined the Ukrainian military blogger, Yuriy Butusov.
The American "think tank" Institute for the Study of War (ISW) also confirmed the attack, and therefore also the veracity of the photographs. According to various sources, two planes could be destroyed in the attack. The matter has aroused strong criticism among Russian experts in the sector, who have accused the national ministry of failing to adequately protect these modern and expensive bombers, parked outside the hangars on the airport runway.
