Lufthansa evaluates legal action against environmentalists
Activist group Last Generation had blocked some airports in Germany
The German aviation group Lufthansa is considering launching a legal action against the climate activists of the group Last Generation. The aim is to claim damages for canceled and delayed flight connections due to the protests on July 13, 2023 at the airports of Düsseldorf and Hamburg, as well as the mobilization on November 24, 2022 at the Berlin airport.
The activists had entered the runways of various airports in Germany, blocking the movement of the planes. With this protest, environmentalists wanted to draw attention to the negative effects of air traffic on the climate. Although Lufthansa has not quantified the amount of damage caused by the interruption of operations, according to some German experts in the sector this could correspond to several million euros. The airline announced today that the intention is to seek compensation for all the air carriers in the Group.
