Argentina looks to Indian helicopters

Interest in Luh and Dhruv aircrafts models

The Ministry of Defense of Argentina and the Indian State-owned aircraft manufacturer Hindustan Aeronautics (HAL) have signed a letter of intent relating to a possible acquisition of three-tonne Light Utility Helicopter (LUH) helicopters and Dhruv rotorcraft. It was communicated by the Asian manufacturer, according to which the pact was signed between the Argentinean minister, Jorge Taiana, and the president of the company, Ananthakrishnan.

The two subjects did not reveal further details on the sale. At the moment it is only known that Argentina would be involved in the aircraft manufacturing process. In any case, it is an important move, considering that the military fleet of Buenos Aires must be modernized: data from the aviation analysis company Cirium, indicate that the army, navy and air force manage 95 helicopters with an average age of 44.3 years.

In detail, the Argentine army has 27 examples of Bell UH-1 "Iroquois" UH-1H and another 22 in the UH-1H "Huey II" configuration, with an average age of 50.9 years. The youngest aircraft are six Air Force Bell 412 helicopters with an average age of 9.3 years. Argentina also manages other rotorcraft: various models built by the US Bell, the European Airbus Helicopters, the Italian Leonardo, the American MD Helicopters and Sikorsky.
