Hungary receives new military helicopters

First batch of H-225M transport aircraft welcomed

The Hungarian Air Force took delivery of the first two H-225M multi-purpose transport helicopters in the past few hours, produced by the European manufacturer Airbus Helicopters. These rotary-wing aircraft will be located at the Szolnok air base, a town located in the central part of the country. This is the first batch of a 2018 order comprising a total of 16 aircraft of the same type.

The two helicopters had been inaugurated in early July at the French industry plant in Marignane, France. The new military aircraft were welcomed at the Hungarian base by the usual water cannon, together with military leaders, including Brigadier General József Koller and Colonel Zsolt Simon

The H-225M helicopters have been manufactured according to the specific needs of the Hungarian Armed Forces. The first flight of this aircraft model dates back to November 2000, while it was placed on the market in February 2005. It is equipped with two Turbomeca Blood 2A1 engines (2382 HP each) and has a maximum speed of 324 km/h. It can carry up to 28 soldiers, in addition to the two crew members. Their purchase is part of the national program for defense and development of the air force, which aims to modernize the fleet.
