Germany: "We will have the most powerful Army in Europe"
Berlin's goal is to become a NATO point of reference in Europe in 2025
Germany aims to create the best equipped army among the European allies of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). A goal that Berlin aims to reach in 2025. Countries are in fact rushing to strengthen their armed forces in the wake of the Russian military invasion of Ukraine.
"I am very optimistic that we will be able to complete our goal for 2025. It will be fine. It will be enough, in any case, to contribute to NATO by having the best equipped division of all the European partners. At least, this is the common goal with our Dutch partners", said Army Lieutenant General Alfons Mais, interviewed by the British news agency "Reuters".
However, it must be said that Berlin is far behind its partners from the Old Continent: not having a single combat-ready division. Each military unit is made up of over 20,000 soldiers. Germany aims to have the first of three divisions operational by 2025, followed by the second in 2027, each of which would initially have 80%-90% personnel equipped with new equipment.
