UK: Airport crime investigation
Analysis conducted on requests to the police from passengers reporting violations
A study conducted by British security company Get Licensed ranked airports according to crime rate. The analysis is based on Freedom of Information (Foi), that is a requests for information sent to the British police forces, when a passenger reports a crime committed against him in a UK airport.
The ranking refers to 2022 and is as follows: Luton airport was the stopover with the highest rate of reported crimes per year (959) with 7.2 crimes per 100,000 passengers. In second place that of Manchester. The Scottish airport of Glasgow was on the third step of the podium. Followed by Newcastle and London-Heathrow. The latter, however, considering that it is one of the largest and busiest airports in the world, has the record of reports: 2494.
As far as the situation concerned of the smaller airports, Humberside was the one with the highest crime rate (9.7 crimes per 100,000 passengers). The safest airports were instead Leeds-Bradford (0.2 crimes per 100,000 passengers), Edinburgh (0.4), Belfast City Airport (0.5), Belfast International Airport (0.6) and Inverness Airport (0.7).
