Amsterdam Airport: given last suitcase back

Over 10,000 pieces of luggage had been stuck at the airport since 28 June

More than 10,000 suitcases, hand luggage and miscellaneous items were stacked in the warehouses of Amsterdam-Schiphol airport. It was caused by an outage in the baggage system on 28 June, which prevented trolleys and bags from being returned to their owners. Now, however, the management company has announced that it has returned everything to the rightful owners.

"Additional staff was hired to handle the bags and finally fix the problem. It takes some time because all the bags had to be double-checked again". At the airport, "we are doing our best together with the companies", explained a spokesman for the airport management company.

That tens of thousands of pieces of luggage belonged mostly to passengers transiting through Amsterdam Airport as they traveled on to reach a different destination. The problem was caused by a failure in the technological system that connects all the baggage storage areas of the airport. The lack of communication between the airlines and the airport had complicated things.
