Germany: purchase 60 military helicopters continues
CH-47F "Chinook" aircraft to modernize aging fleet
Germany's parliamentary budget committee would have officially taken the decision to go ahead with the purchase of 60 military CH-47F "Chinook" heavy transport helicopters manufactured by the US manufacturer Boeing. The value of the deal, if finalized, according to some estimates is around 8 billion euros, including services (maintenance, spare parts, training) and the infrastructure necessary to make the aircraft operational.
At the beginning of May 2023, the US State Department had accepted Berlin's request to purchase the aircraft, which will replace the old Sikorsky CH-53 "Sea Stallion" transport helicopters (produced in 1964-1978) of the German military fleet. Negotiations between the two governments will continue until the signing of the contract. Deliveries are expected in three years. The purchase is made possible by the special German fund worth 100 billion euros.
