IAG Group purchases 10 aircraft
Delivery is expected in 2028, they will be distributed to subsidiary airlines
Aviation group International Airlines Group (IAG) has reached an agreement with European aircraft manufacturer Airbus to convert 10 purchase options on A-320neo aircraft into firm orders. Some of these may also be A-321neo aircraft. Delivery is expected in 2028 and these airplanes will then be distributed among the subsidiary airlines: including the Irish Aer Lingus, the British British Airways, and the Spanish Vueling and Iberia.
This is a decisive step forward for the renewal of the Spanish-British group's fleet. Both the A-320neo and A-321neo aircraft, both single-aisle aircraft with a seating capacity of 220 and 240 passengers respectively, will be used for short-haul flights. These 10 new aircraft will replace older versions of the A-320neo.
International Airlines Group has not disclosed the specific amount of the contract, but the value of the order is around 1.1 billion euros at list prices. This move falls within the framework of initiatives with which the Group intends to modernize the fleet (not expand it) and achieve international decarbonisation objectives by 2050. In 2023, IAG's investment in aircraft is expected to be close to 4 billion Euros for a total of 29 airplanes.
