USA: bad weather stops thousands of planes

More than 9,000 flights delayed or cancelled in the last 24 hours

Fourth day of disruption to air transport in the United States: over 9,000 flights have been delayed or cancelled in the last 24 hours. The chaos was caused by the intense storms that hit various areas of the stars and stripes country, including the Mid-Atlantic area and the western side of the American continent, where most of the busiest airport hubs are located. Delays of up to two hours at New York's three airports.

It was confirmed by the data analysis by the specialized website "FlightAware": on Monday 26 June more than 11,000 flight connections were delayed or canceled due to bad weather and a lack of personnel in charge of air traffic control; while on Tuesday 27 June more than 7,300 flights were delayed and over 2,100 cancelled.

In detail, United Airlines recorded the worst performance among domestic airlines: about 26% of its schedule (774 flights) was canceled and 41% (1226 connections) delayed. In the past few hours, the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has requested temporary stops at some airports. The interruptions are significantly less than in the previous days, but are destined to continue.
