The Transportation Committee of the United States House of Representatives introduced a broad bill on the aviation sector on Friday. It includes increased hiring of air traffic controllers, better protection of airline passengers affected by delays and cancellations, and lays the foundations for a future that includes drones and air taxis.

"For more than a century, the United States has led the world in aviation safety and innovation, but our 'Gold Standard' status is threatened by increasing global competition, rapid developments in technology, shortages of aviation and FAA inefficiency", Transportation Committee Chair Sam Graves said.

The introduction of the bipartisan bill provides 100 billion dollars in funding for airports over five years. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has set a deadline of September 30 for the approval of the new law. The measure includes protection proposals for airline passengers, including the elimination of fares for families sitting together.
