Air carrier IndiGo wants 500 Airbus aircraft
It could be the largest trade in the world by a single company
Indian low-cost carrier IndiGo is close to signing a potential maxi-order for 500 narrow-body Airbus A-320 aircraft. According to an initial estimate, the deal would be worth more than 50 billion dollars at list prices, but in the case of wholesale sales of many vehicles, as in this case, it could be worth significantly less.
This is an indiscretion relaunched by the British news agency "Reuters", which cites industry sources who spoke on the sidelines of a meeting of the International Air Transport Association (Iata) held these days in Istanbul. The news comes after Air India's historic purchase of 470 Airbus planes in February 2023.
To date, the IndiGo airline, which holds a 56% share of the Indian aviation market, is one of the major customers of the European manufacturer Airbus: so far it has ordered a total of 830 A-320 family aircraft, of which almost 500 are to be yet to be delivered. If the order is confirmed, it will be the world's largest purchase of aircraft by a single airline.
