G7 Hiroshima: "Yes" to F-16 planes in Kiev
The green light from US President Joe Biden, ready to train Ukrainian pilots
At the G7 summit in Hiroshima (May 19-21), US President Joe Biden "informed his counterparts" that he will allow their North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) allies to supply American-made warplanes, including the General Dynamics F-16 "Fighting Falcon". Washington has announced that it will train pilots from Kiev. Wrath of Moscow: a move that involves "enormous risks".
"When our pilots get acquainted with the F16 and when these aircraft appear in our skies, it will matter not only for Ukraine. This will be a historic moment for the entire security architecture in Europe and the world", said the president Ukrainian Volodymyr Zelensky, speaking at the G7 meeting in Hiroshima.
"I am also grateful -he added- for the decision to train our pilots on modern fighter aircraft. The air shield can only be complete when ground-based air defense systems are complemented by modern aircraft in the air. We are now on the road to eliminate the capability gap".
