Airplane-helicopter. USA: four tiltrotors for the Navy
Agreement for the production of Osprey V-22B
The United States Navy has signed a contract with Bell Textron and Boeing companies for the production of another four Osprey CMV-22B tiltrotor aircraft (helicopter-airplane). The deal is valued at an estimated 482 million dollars. According to experts this could be the last ordered batch of this specific aircraft model. The majority of the work will be done at the Fort Worth, Texas facility.
The V-22 Osprey tiltrotor was first used by the Marine Corps in 2007. Subsequently, some of these aircraft, in the CV-22 variant, entered service with the US Air Force in 2009. These aircraft have been a staple in military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. Then, since 2014, Washington has reduced the defense budget for the purchase of V-22s. To date, over 400 aircraft-helicopters have been delivered to the armed forces.
