Japan looks at eVtol

Agreement between the government, the Japanese air carrier and the US company

The air carrier Japan Airlines and the US company Wisk Aero, specialized in the production of electric vertical take off and landing (eVtol) aircraft, are collaborating to bring unmanned air taxi services to Japan, working close togheter on the development of aircraft and the related maintenance service. 

"Autonomous aviation is developing and we strongly believe that this partnership with Wisk is the first step towards developing the next generation of safe air mobility in Japan", said Ryo Tamura, Executive Officer of Japan Airlines. Wisk Regional Director Catherine MacGowan echoed him: "Japan represents a large and densely populated market in which air taxi services can have a real and positive impact on local communities". 

The two companies recently signed a memorandum of understanding, also undersigned by the Japan Civil Aviation Bureau (JCAB) and other state corporations competent in the field of air mobility of the future. The agreement aims to define a regulatory framework for the operation of the eVtol, the safety measures, the way in which the community can take advantage of the air taxi transport service.
