Young passenger saves himself by jumping from the balloon
A Kubicek BB-37Z balloon (registration S5-OLB) caught fire while flying over the famous Mexican archaeological site of Teotihuacan, crashing to the ground. The toll is two victims out of a total of three people on board: a 39-year-old woman and a 50-year-old man died, a 13-year-old girl was injured, according to government reports. Weather conditions were good. The causes of the accident, which occurred over the weekend, are unknown.
According to an initial reconstruction, the accident occurred around 12:00 in Teotihuacan, about an hour from the capital Mexico City. The balloon was taking off when the flames from the burner engulfed the envelope of the balloon. According to official sources "the passengers have already jumped from the balloon". The 13-year-old girl was seriously injured, suffering first and second degree burns, as well as a fractured right humerus. The balloon was destroyed.
