The air carrier Brussels Airlines (controlled by the German aviation group Lufthansa) has recently signed an agreement with the Irish regional company CityJet for the wet-lease (rental of air transport services) of two Bombardier CRJ-900 aircraft, capable of up to 88 seats. The initiative arrives just a few days after the inauguration of the new managing director, Dorothea von Boxberg (see AVIONEWS).

"With this fleet and network expansion, Brussels Airlines reaches its growth target three years ahead of schedule. The airline will acquire three Airbus Neo aircraft to significantly reduce CO2 and noise emissions on its medium-haul flight network. The airline also plans to operate its first flight on Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) in 2023", said head of strategy and planning, Jan Derycke.

The objective of the agreement with CityJet for Brussels Airlines is to expand the summer program of air connections with daily routes between Munich, Milan-Linate, Bordeaux, Vienna, Lyon and Geneva, and business routes to the Hamburg and Birmingham airports. The airline will also expand its Airbus fleet with two A-320s, destined for medium-haul routes to Djerba or Monastir. These aircraft will add to the 42 in the current fleet.
