Italy. End-of-year press conference: more investments in Defense

Meloni: "Forward on the commitment to spend 2% of GDP in the sector undertaken by NATO"

Economy, work, covid-19, war in Ukraine, European Union. These are some of the main themes of the journalists' questions answered by the Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, on the occasion of the traditional end-of-year press conference held today in the Parliamentary Groups Hall. In particular, one question concerned the commitments undertaken with the Atlantic Alliance regarding military expenditure.

"The commitment to defense spending at 2% of GDP undertaken within NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization, Editor's note) is a matter we want to keep to as closely as possible. The issue of what is invested in defense concerns the of a country to defend its interests", she said.

The government led by Giuseppe Conte "increased military spending by 3 billion euros". "I think it's important to work across the board. Italy will go ahead: by how much and for how long it depends on the conditions that surround us, but I can confirm -she concluded- Italy's willingness to keep the commitments made and to do so in order to be credible and to be credible to defend its national interests".
