ITA Airways: no concrete offer
The strategic node: interested parties could move traffic to European airports
The privatization of the national air carrier ITA Airways is in a stalemate. This situation is explained by some industry experts, who have turned the spotlight on the fact that subjects based abroad interested in acquiring the majority of the capital of the Italian airline could move air traffic from national airports to European airport hubs.
At the moment the favorite subject of the Meloni Government is the German aviation group Lufthansa, alongside which there could be an Italian subject, a scheme in which the Executive works: there has been talk of a role of Cassa depositi e prestiti or of the Ferrovie dello Stato italiane. However, already in the past the German airline had the opportunity to take control of the national airline, the former Alitalia, but without ever going through with the operation, from which it withdrew.
According to the ITA Airways relaunch plan, developed by the German airline, the Rome- Fiumicino airport should be transformed into a "hub towards the South of the world", while Milan-Malpensa would become a transit terminal towards the airport of Frankfurt and from there to the United States, Europe and Southeast Asia. A tactical move that would betray the real objective: to prevent other competitors, including Air France-Klm, from buying ITA.
