ITA Airways: Altavilla resigns as President

Decision arrived on the eve of the board meeting

The Executive President of the air carrier ITA Airways, Alfredo Altavilla, decided to step aside in the past few hours, in a "conditional" way, before the board of directors' meeting. The airline manager sent a letter of resignation accompanied by a request for indemnity, that is, to waive any liability action by the Mef (Ministry of Economy and Finance) from which compensation is expected.

Recently the majority of the board had revoked all operational powers, due to alleged obstacles to the sale of the majority of the capital of the Italian company against the consortium led by the US investment fund Certares (together with the carriers Delta Air Lines and Air France), with which the Ministry of Economy and Finance had started an exclusive negotiation.

Along with Altavilla, a member of the board of directors, Vyvyen Frances Ouseley, also resigned. Today only the Managing Director remains on the board, Fabio Lazzerini, while the other directors await the acceptance of the resignation by the Mef: Lelio Fornabaio, Alessandra Fratini, Simonetta Giordani, Cristina Girelli, Silvio Martuccelli and Angelo Piazza.
