Greece vs Turkey: airspace violated 6,100 times

Accusation on the occasion of an official visit of the French government delegation to Athens

The tensions between Greece and Turkey show no signs of abating. Ankara recently accused Athens of hindering some military exercises. This adds to the perennial diatribe over control of the island of Cyprus, in fact split in two, and of the surrounding sea. Now, on the occasion of the visit of a French government delegation to Greece, the Turks are accused of having repeatedly violated Hellenic territorial sovereignty.

"We are not shocked or frightened" and "we do not accept neo-Ottoman bullying. Turkey violates the borders of our national sovereignty on a daily basis. This year there have been more than 6100 violations of the national airspace and 1000 of those of our territorial waters" , said the Greek foreign minister, Nikos Dendias .

Words spoken at a press conference after the meeting with the French foreign minister, Catherine Colonna, in Athens. Dendias stressed the importance of the Athens-Paris strategic cooperation agreement which led to the purchase of French armaments, Colonna reiterated that he will be alongside Athens.
