US say yes to assist Greek military helicopters

Pentagon approves sale of services and components for S-70

The US State Department has approved the sale to Greece of services and components for Sikorsky S-70 military helicopters. The Pentagon said the deal has an estimated value of about 162,07 million dollars, which includes parts, repair services and accessories provided by prime contractor Lockheed Martin.

The Sikorsky S-70 is a medium twin-engine tactical transport helicopter. It is equipped in the basic version with two General Electric T-700/700 turbines (1160 kW power) and is capable of developing a maximum speed of 357 km/h. The aircraft made its first flight on October 17, 1974, and entered service in 1979. Sikorsky won a tender with the United States Army to supply this type of rotary-wing aircraft to the Army, although several versions have been produced over the decades, both for civilian and military use.
