At the start this morning the resumption of evacuation operations of civilians from the Ukrainian city of Mariupol, besieged for weeks by the Russian Army, which seeks to take full possession to ensure control of the entire coastal strip of the country. The first people who were evacuated yesterday from the Azovstal steel plant were transferred to Zaporizhzhia late yesterday evening. 

To be evacuated will be mainly women, children and elderly people, who will have access to medical care, food, medicine and psychological assistance. At the moment there would still be 200 people to help. However, Kiev warns that continued military attacks targeting the city, especially the plant, could hinder, as it did yesterday, the rescue operations of civilians.

"Only three of the 14 evacuation buses with refugees from Mariupol have reached the territory controlled by the Ukrainian Government. The fate of the people in the remaining eleven buses is unknown: these eleven vehicles disappeared somewhere, they were supposed to go to Zaporizhzhia in the controlled part of our state, but they got lost somewhere", said the mayor of Mariupol, Vadym Boichenko.
