U.S. big tech bets on cybersecurity

A 4.9 billion dollars investment in cloud-based data security

U.S. technology company Google made it known yesterday that it has acquired the company Mandiant, which specializes in cybersecurity services and real-time cyber threat monitoring. The total value of the deal is about 4.9 billion dollars. The Mountain View giant's goal is to enhance the security of its cloud-based data service to compete with other industry players such as Amazon and Microsoft.

"The brand is synonymous with unparalleled capabilities for businesses looking to keep themselves secure in an ever-changing environment. This is an opportunity to provide a suite of end-to-end security tools and extend one of the best consulting organizations in the world", said Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian.

Cyber attacks, the manager points out, are "increasingly frequent, severe and diverse". In recent times, therefore, companies must be able to respond quickly, detect threats in their ecosystems and "orchestrate" innovative solutions in the face of the "sophistication and severity" of today's cyber attacks. "The attacks used yesterday against governments are being used today against companies in every industry."
