Active aircraft services at the "Beijing Winter Games"

New baggage handling and search and rescue helicopters

At the "Beijing Winter Olympics", which run from 4th to 20th February 2022, government agencies have activated a range of air support services for athletes, national team staff and organisational personnel. After years of preparation, China did not want to miss the event, but had to step up security measures to counter the resurgence of the pandemic.

For the Winter Games, the Aviation Industry Corporation of China has deployed three Changhe Z-8 Search and Rescue helicopters (SaR) in the Zhangjiakou Chongli district and in the Yunding ski resort. The aircraft are capable of transporting up to nine patients and helping seriously injured people. Operations are coordinated using a satellite navigation system. In addition, in December, some rotary-wing aircraft had been used in ski slope snowmaking operations.

Already in 2019, the Civil Aviation Administration of China (Caac) had set up a team to ensure the operation of commercial air transport services and the safety of Olympic passengers and staff. Air China, the official partner of the Beijing 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, which carried the Olympic flame from Greece to the Chinese capital, has activated new baggage handling technologies.
