Ukraine crisis: private freighters carrying arms
Third US cargo with anti-tank missiles and tons of armaments and military equipment
The crisis on the Ukrainian border between Russia and the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) countries prompted several member States to send weapons to Eastern Europe in recent days. The US government is in the front line. In order to move men and equipment as quickly as possible, in addition to using US military transport aircraft, Washington has signed agreements with private cargo carriers.
This is what emerges from the photos published in recent days on social networks by the US embassy in Ukraine. The picture shows a B-747/400 aircraft belonging to the private cargo airline National Airlines, immortalised during the loading of armaments. The caption explains that the cargo consists of 300 Javelin anti-tank missiles, plus other armaments and army equipment, totalling 79 tonnes.
The cargo, worth 200 million dollars, left Dover Air Force Base and arrived at Boryspil Airport in Kyiv. It is the third private shipment of its kind approved by US President Joe Biden to provide security in Eastern Europe in response to a 100,000-strong Russian force on the border.
