Omicron variant: restrictions on flights in the USA
Free tests. No quarantine. Air carriers requests accepted in part
The President of the United States Joe Biden has illustrated the new measures to limit the spread of the new variant of the coronavirus Omicron yesterday. Only vaccinated airline passengers will be allowed on American soil, but they will have to be swabbed 24 hours before the flight. Unlike what was expected in recent days, the approach will be gradual. In its provisions, the federal administration accepted in part the request made by air carriers and tour operators.
The anti-covid plan will come into effect next week. All people arriving in the United States, in addition to having completed the vaccination cycle, will have to present themselves at boarding with a test carried out one day before departure. Therefore, the program to carry out free covid-tests in four key airports in the United States will be enhanced at: the "John Fitzgerald Kennedy" in New York, Newark-Liberty, San Francisco, Hartsfield-Jackson in Atlanta. The two main American carriers, Delta Air Lines and United Airlines, said they have no plans to introduce new restrictions.
At the federal level, for the moment the hypothesis of a quarantine on both foreign and American passengers returning to the country has been discarded. In addition, the awareness campaign for the third dose has been relaunched: the goal is to reach about 100 million Americans. Additional effort to spread do-it-yourself testing was announced.
