Wizz Air presents fifth aircraft at Rome-Fiumicino

AVIONEWS interviews the Chief Commercial Officer George Michalopoulos - VIDEO and GALLERY

Sustainability, resilience, expansion. These are the three key words to understand the current vision of the Wizz Air carrier. The low-cost airline based in Hungary announced this morning in Rome the introduction of a fifth aircraft at the "Leonardo da Vinci" airport of Rome-Fiumicino. This is a decision that will add 13 new routes that will be operated starting from June 2022: Ibiza, Palma de Mallorca, Madrid, Menorca, Rhodes, Cefalù, Belgrade, Yerevan in Armenia, Turku in Finland, among them.

"Italy plays an important role in Wizz Air's strategy. This is a very important investment market for us. We have been present since 2004 but we opened the first base last year, eight months ago. Now we have grown to practically 22 aircraft. We are now among the top three major players in the country. With today's announcement we are now the first airline in terms of destinations served by Rome-Fiumicino. It is a really important milestone for us", said George Michalopoulos, Chief Commercial Officer of Wizz Air, in an interview with AVIONEWS.

The press conference was held at the "Rose Garden Palace" hotel in Rome. Speakers include: Andras Rado, Senior Corporate Communications Manager at Wizz Air; George Michalopoulos, Chief Commercial Officer of Wizz Air; Ivan Bassato, Chief Aviation Officer of Aeroporti di Roma (AdR).
