Spanish Government ready to split Air Europa carrier
For each division there will be a separate board of directors
Three is the perfect number par excellence, but it must not have been the main reason that led Spain to divide airline Air Europa into three different segments, which has been talked about more and more often for some time now due to its economic difficulties (read also the article published by AVIONEWS). Another key priority for Madrid in this historical period is to look for a CEO for the airline, at least according to what is reported by the Iberian media. This carrier would be split into Air Europa, Air Europa Holding and Air Europa Express. In particular, the last name is the one chosen for the division that will deal with low-cost flights.
There will probably also be three boards of directors, each of which consists of five members; three of them will be chosen by the owners of Air Europa, the Hidalgo family, while the other two by Sepi (the Spanish state-owned company that deals with industrial holdings). The Sociedad Estatal de Participaciones Industriales will play a decisive role in indicating the CEO, since it will personally take care of the appointment as loudly requested by the Spanish executive in recent days. The low-cost airline Ryanair has lashed out against the rescue of this company, which has decided to appeal to the European Court of Justice, in order to oppose the authorization from Brussels.
