September 11, 2001: 19 years ago the tragic attacks in New York

This memory is indelible: there were almost 3,000 victims

Impossible to forget where we were and what we were doing at that moment. It was exactly 19 years since terrible and disconcerting September 11, 2001, a date that changed history of the whole world forever. We always say this when we remember that late Summer day that seems so far in time but is still clear in the mind for obvious reasons. At 8:46 am (local time), American Airlines Flight 11 crashed into one of the "twin towers" in World Trade Center, New York. At first someone could imagine a pilot's tragic mistake, but at 9:03 another United Airlines aircraft (flight 175) crashed into the other tower, suggesting that terrorism was the absolute protagonist of that day. These were two B-767 aircraft hijacked shortly after take-off, both from Boston and bound for Los Angeles, which caused the collapse of the buildings in a very short time.

American Airlines Flight 77, on the other hand, hit the west face of the Pentagon. The attacks of that day could be more: United Airlines Flight 93 crashed in a field in Pennsylvania, but the intention of the terrorists on board was to have it crash into the White House. In this case the passengers rebelled and the goal was not achieved. The al-Qaeda terrorist group led by Osama Bin Laden claimed responsibility for the vast suicide operation. Thousands of people lost their lives following the attacks. According to estimates, the total number was 2,977 victims, excluding the 19 bombers. Many people tried desperately to escape the fire and the collapse of the buildings by throwing themselves into the void and crashing into the streets of New York. Nothing has been the same since that day, so close and so far at the same time.
