Philippines Navy tries to block new airport

It should be located in the same place of naval base

A green light that does not convince everyone, especially armed forces: in Philippines Vice-Admiral Giovanni Carlo Bacordo, chief of local Navy, strongly opposed the construction of an airport during the a radio intervention in the last few hours. Why? The port has been contracted out to a Chinese builder and in addition it would make it necessary to abandon the military base in Manila by the same Navy. The project has a total cost of 14 billion dollars and the former celestial empire company involved goes by the name of China Communications Construction.

The works were also awarded to the Philippine MacroAsia Corporation. The goal is to decongest the main airport of the Nation, or the international airport "Ninoy Aquino" which is located in the capital. The new infrastructure should be built in Sangley Point, a location that Bacordo considers essential for the Armed Force it leads due to its strategic position. The abandonment of the naval base would affect 10 thousand sailors, 207 structures, 3 schools and 738 homes. The dislike of the Chinese company is quickly explained: China Communications Construction has been blacklisted by the US Department of Commerce due to some artificial islands built in the South China Sea.
