Russia: MiG-31 fighter jets in Siberia until 2024
Equipped with hypersonic "Kinzhal" ballistic missiles
The commander of the Russian armed forces of the central district Aleksander Lapin has announced that the army will use MiG-31 long range interceptor fighter planes, equipped with hypersonic "Kinzhal" ballistic missiles, in the territory of Krasnoyarsk, Siberia, until 2024. The rockets had been presented by President Vladimir Putin in 2018 during his annual message to the federal assembly.
The Kh-47M2 "Kinzhal" missile (translation from Russian "Dagger"), is an airborne ballistic rocket developed in Russia to arm the MiG-31BM interceptors. This is a more advanced version of the 9K720 "Iskander", produced in the Votkinsk factory. It has a maximum range of 2000 km and an approach capacity of between 10,620 and 12,250 km / h. It has conventional, thermonuclear, thermobaric, sub-ammunition and perforating / explosive warheads for protected targets. It is capable of attacking fixed and large objectives.
