The doubt that the same malfunction caused the two accidents of the Boeing B-737 MAX 8 aircraft -of Lion Air and Ethiopian Airlines- in addition to causing the global grounding of the US aircraft, also meant that the US Department of Transport (DoT) opened an inquiry into the certification process carried out by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
