Pollution. € 27.5 million invested at Geneva airport to reduce emissions

But it would also require an effort by companies and producers

The issues related to pollution produced by the air transport sector are increasingly on the agenda, and some airports have been intervening for years to limit environmental impact. One of them is the Geneva airport which has invested about EUR 27.5 million in 2016 to make the airport sustainable, trying to reduce direct greenhouse gas emissions. The problem, as was pointed out by the president of the airport board Corine Moinat -during the presentation of a report- is that the interventions can not be done directly on the aircraft, for which it would serve the airlines and the manufacturers invest more to reduce emissions and dependence on oil. However, what can be done by airports is equally important as diesel powered vehicles can be replaced with electric models, as well as heat pumps could be used to supply energy and air to parked aircraft without having to use conventional fuel.
