Yesterday Congress, after a week of pitched battles which killed 3 people, deposed President Lucio Gutierrez, charged with abuse of power, who took sanctuary in Brazilian Embassy in Quito. Brazilian Government will grant him political asylum. Gutierrez was replaced by his vice, Alfredo Palacio, who intends to guide the country till January 2007.
