Memory Day celebrated at Plesetsk cosmodrome

Plesetsk, Russia - In 1980 a bad accident killed 48 people

Every year on the 18th of March at the Russian Plesetsk cosmodrome, the same from where the ESA Goce satellite took off (see AVIONEWS), is held the "Day of Sorrow and Memory" in honour of the 48 victims of the terrible accident happened in 1980. 40 more were injured. Plesetsk base was one of the secret launchpads of the Soviet Union in those years, and during a launch operation a badly fixed oxygen...
