London confirms commitment to Gcap aircraft
Crosetto (Italian Defense): "Agreement goes beyond industry, we defend our allied countries"
The new UK government, led by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, had said it wanted to reconsider London's commitment to the Global Combat Air Program (GCAP) due to a review of the national defense budget. In the last few hours, however, the British executive has reassured Japan and Italy, allies in the development of a sixth generation fighter aircraft, that it will continue the project.
This is what emerged during a meeting, which was held in recent days in London, which was attended by the delegations of the three countries led by the Japanese defense minister Minoru Kihara, by the Italian counterpart Guido Crosetto, and by the British one John Healey.
"We have found a way to improve our industry and our engineering by comparing three different, and all successful, ways to approach industrial production. This is an agreement that goes beyond the industrial part. We take also in charge of defending our allied countries now and in the future", was the comment of the Italian Defense Minister, Crosetto.
