Lufthansa Group orders 40 additional A-220 planes
In the /300 variant, they will be added to the fleet of medium-range aircraft
The Supervisory Board of the Lufthansa Group has decided to place a firm order for 40 additional A-220/300 aircraft for its short- and medium-range fleet. The A-220 has been in service with the Group since 2016, when Swiss put the first plane into service. With this latest order, the German airline further strengthens its long-standing relationship with Airbus. Since the A-300 in the 1970s, the Lufthansa Group has operated all members of the Airbus product family, from the A-220, to the A-320 family, to the A-330/A-340, to 'A-350 and A-380.
The latest and most modern A-220/300 is the big brother of the successful A-220 family and can carry 120 to 150 passengers on flights of up to 3400 nautical miles (6300 km). The aircraft offers a 25% reduction in fuel consumption and Co2 emissions per seat compared to the previous generatio; it also has the largest cabin, seats and windows in its category, ensuring superior levels of comfort.
Like all Airbus aircraft, the A-220 is already capable of operating using up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). By 2030 all Airbus commercial, military and helicopter aircraft will be able to operate with 100% Saf. At the end of November the industry had registered 849 orders from 31 customers for the A-220; of these 303 have already been delivered. The A-220 is already in successful service with 18 airlines worldwide on more than 1350 routes.
